Thanks for checking out my piano tuning school here in Chicagoland.
People will always love and need pianos. Often imitated, never duplicated, there is nothing quite like a real piano. They’re here to stay, and there will always be a need to maintain them- especially as the current generation of technicians and tuners retire and move on. Here you will learn to tune a piano by ear, without electronic devices, though you certainly will be able to use them if you want to. The satisfaction of a job well done and the gratitude of a satisfied customer will enrich you for your entire life, and help pay the bills.
What You Can Expect: As a student, you will learn what an equal temperament is, why it was adopted, and what methods are used to “temper” the scale we use to tune pianos. I will explain how to listen to “beats” and “intervals” to properly place the notes in the scales and achieve harmony in a piano tuning. You will learn how to handle a tuning lever, and the basics of how a piano works. I may offer a separate class on piano repair and more at a future date.
Some Perspective: There is no one way to tune a piano. I will show you a few ways to arrive at your destination, and help you choose the best technique for you. Once armed with an understanding of beat frequency ratios, you will eventually gain your own path to systematically achieve a good tuning. One that will satisfy yourself and your customers time after time and put you on your path to self sufficiency. It’s hard to say how long it takes to learn how to tune a piano. Most say years. My course is only two weeks, but is designed to show you the basics of piano tuning, and give you the tools and knowledge to take yourself to the next level. For that reason it is highly encouraged that you have a piano to practice on at home or somewhere convenient to where you live or work so you can get the most out of your investment. , .
The Details: Total cost of the 15 hour tuning class is $1,500.00, with a $600 deposit to reserve a space in class. Remaining $900 due before the 2nd lesson. Lessons are generally about 2-3 hours, 7 to 8 lessons in all will be held. Necessary tools will be included in the class price and are yours to keep. Class size is limited and will start sometime this summer or fall.
Refund Policy: A full refund of the deposit is given if cancellation is no later than 2 weeks before the start of class. If you cancel less than 2 weeks prior to the start of class, we will refund $300 of deposit. If after class has begun, and you wish to cancel before the second lesson, the $600 deposit is non-refundable, and you can keep the tools.
